On Skepticism

I was taught from an early age to believe what was true yet be skeptical of everything.
If it matters, research the source and question the facts.
Belief to me was never related to faith, just truth as we know it. It is, and always has been, perplexing and foreign to me to see others accept things they're told, or things they read simply because the source was an "authority" of some kind, whether that were a parent, a religious figure, or a teacher. When being "informed" of something, I consider the reason.
Why are they telling me this?
