Apple Crumb Pie
I started with other recipes but this one has been tuned and tailored for my personal tastes. IMHO, this is the best apple pie on the planet. YMMV.
Serves 6. (Probably 3 or maybe 2, depending on how hungry they are.)
Gear: 1 Pie Dish 1 Large Bowl 1 Medium Bowl 1 Small Bowl Measuring Devices (1/8 tsp., 1/4 tsp., 1/2 tsp., 1 tsp., 1 tbsp., 1/4 c., 1/2 c., 1 c.)
Ingredients:
Pie Dish 1 Pie Shell
Large Bowl 6 cups Apples (2 medium/large Honeycrisp/Pink Lady + 4 small Granny Smith) 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
Small Bowl 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar 1/4 cup Dark Brown Sugar 2 tablespoons Flour 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
Medium Bowl 1 stick Unsalted Butter 1 cup Flour 1 cup Dark Brown Sugar 1/2 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon 1/8 teaspoon Ground Cloves
Preparation:
- Preheat oven to 375° F.
- Cut Apples into small chunks (~1 cm cubes) and place into the Large Bowl. Sprinkle with Lemon Juice.
- In the Small Bowl, mix together 1/2 c. Granulated Sugar, 1/4 c. Dark Brown Sugar, 2 tbsp. Flour, 1 tsp. Ground Cinnamon and 1/4 tsp. Ground Nutmeg. Sprinkle over Apples. Toss until Apples are evenly coated. Spoon into Pie Shell placed inside the Pie Dish.
- In the Medium Bowl, mix together 1 c. Flour and 1 c. Dark Brown Sugar, 1/2 tsp. Ground Nutmeg, 1/2 tsp. Ground Cinnamon and 1/8 tsp. Ground Cloves. Cut in 1 stick of Unsalted Butter until mixture is evenly crumbly. Sprinkle mixture over Apples in Pie Shell. Cover the top loosely with aluminum foil.
- Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 25 to 30 minutes (until the top is golden brown). Cool completely on a wire rack.
- Rejoice and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
